What many people don’t understand is that actors are salespeople. We are selling ourselves. We are the product. And when actors don’t book the job, it is easy to take it personally and think that people don’t want us.
This 1 Thing Made Me A Better Actor and Person
I finally realized that not booking the audition was not a statement about me as a person. I might have given a wonderful audition and still not book the job. There are so many reasons why actors are cast and not cast, and quite often it is not about giving the best audition.
This 1 Realization Helped Keep Me Sane
I learned that audition is not like the Olympics. It is not about who gives the “best” audition. Of course, your audition has to be great, but many actors are giving great auditions. It comes down to who fits the role the best.
Don’t Take Things Personally In The Acting Industry
I finally learned that deciding who gets the role is nothing personal. These are strictly business decisions. You read might have been wonderful, but you were a little too tall, short, too beautiful, not pretty enough, etc… Who knows. The point is, don’t ever take things personally. This has allowed me to feel much more sane in this crazy acting world.
