I just auditioned for a great TV show that is a comedy. I knew that the 1 trick for giving my best read was not to be funny.

That was such a fun job to shoot. It was an editorial for an article about humor.

What is Happening in the Scene

In the first scene, I am talking to one of the stars of the show. He is saying absolutely hilarious and outrageous things to me. I had two choices,

1. I could respond to him in a crazy way that corresponded to the insane
things he was saying.

2. I could answer him as if we are having a normal conversation.

You have to understand. When actors are working together in a scene,
it is a group effort. We are all on the same team with one in common goal.
MAKE THE SCENE WORK

Leave your ego back in your trailer. On the set it is not trying to out do someone else, it is to be a team player and do whatever is necessary to
turn your scene into a memorable one, and a scene that helps the project.

I Played My Scene as Straight as Possible

In order for my scene partner to be unbelievably funny,
I needed to talk with him as if we were having a normal conversation.
That allowed the other actor to stand out even more, which really made
the scene incredibly funny.

The Actual Scene

I never think I am going to book the job. I truly believe this for every audition I attend. It’s not that I think I’m a horrible actor, I just realize that there are so many factors that go into booking a job that has little to do with performance.

My Audition Goals

My number 1 goal for every audition is to have a fun time. I never try and book the job.

When I watch the show, I will be very interested to see how the actor plays the scene.
