Below are 5 successful strategies to act full-time.

Acting Full-Time Is Hard

It is very hard to pivot from acting part time to becoming a full-time actor. It took me years to learn by trial and error what worked and more importantly what didn’t work. Below are a few of the 5 strategies I used that can be seen in the video.

# 1 Successful Strategy – Be Honest

It is so important to be honest with others in the industry. Some people will tell you to exaggerate your list of credits on your resume. Perhaps add some plays that you never appeared in. Or, give the appearance of some film or TV jobs as being principal ones when you were actually an extra.
My opinion is that this is not a good way to be in this world or run your acting business. People can easily find out the truth about your credits and not want to work with you if you aren’t telling the truth.

Don’t lie about your location

Some people will tell agents that they live in the city where the agent is located even though that is not true. It is always best to let your agent know where you live and let the agent decide if he or she believes that will cause an issue with representing you.

#2 Successful Strategy – Be Good At Your Craft

You need to make sure that you are not only a talented actor, but also know how to audition. This way, when the opportunity comes for you to meet an agent or other industry professionals, you will let them see how good you are. If you are not ready, don’t pitch yourself to agents for representation. People will remember auditions that are not good. Wait until you are ready.

#3 Successful Strategy – Make Sure Your Materials Are Ready

In todays time, having not a good, nice or pretty headshot, but an effective one is crucial. Many agents will ask actors to upload their headshot online. If it doesn’t clearly show them how you should be submitted or look professional, it will be very hard to get a meeting.

Your resume also need to be in the proper format and have the correct information. If you don’t have a lot of credits, that is OK. Agents understand that it takes time to get experience and credits. But, actors need to understand what info is needed and what information should never be placed on an acting resume.
